FUTURE WORLD LEADERS

“Our son participated in the CIT program this summer. We immediately noticed the difference in the level of responsibility and willingness to cooperate at home. He also has new insights in interpersonal relationships that I believe will help him later in life.” - Parent of a 2018 CIT

COUNSELOR IN TRAINING (CIT)

The CIT program is a four or five week program for 16 and 17 year olds, designed to train those who are ready to take on new challenges, opportunities and responsibilities at camp. CITs work with campers assisting staff in cabins, activity areas, evening activities in both Overnight and Day Camp. They have additional responsibilities around camp including dishes, excursion food distribution, and mail delivery. This unique opportunity provides teens with the chance to develop their personal leadership style, hone in on their communication and problem solving skills and gain valuable professional development that will help them succeed at Camp, in school and in any workplace.

Overview

Recently, we debuted an upgrade to our traditional CIT program. It has been a huge focus for the year-round team at Camp to continue to better this program so that we are not only creating a highly skilled applicant pool for future staff, but we are also sending CITs home who are better prepared for school, college, the workforce and beyond.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the CIT program is based on six core competencies:

  • Youth Development

  • Leadership Styles

  • Group Facilitation

  • Risk Management & Decision Making

  • Effective Communication

  • Professional Development.

Schedule

To best deliver lessons on these skills, we will utilize a mixture of in-camp CIT classes and an off camp, CIT only, wilderness trip.  CITs will be living in cabins & learning about the responsibilities of a counselor through a combination of hands-on practice & specific training classes led by our CIT Directors.

Impact

A CIT experience allows teens the chance to see “behind the scenes” at Camp and have a lasting impact on our campers this summer. Plus, a chance to gain lifelong friends and memories! For more information please email Mike Obermayer, Summer Camp Director. You can find the pricing and dates on our dates and rates page.
