Getting Ready for Camp

Thank you for being part of our Camp Chingachgook family.  We know that coming to camp is a big decision and we are so happy that you are joining us!

At Camp Chingachgook, we want to work hand-in-hand with parents/guardians before, during, and after their child’s camp experience to ensure a positive impact throughout.

YMCA Camp Chingachgook is proud to be a partner in your child’s summer experience. We are always available for questions or a private tour. Please give us a call if we can help any step of the way - 518-656-9462.

We also offer webinars each spring to answer questions and help prepare families. You can check out past webinars here and here

Parent Account

As you count down the days until your session, we know that there are a lot of questions that you may have.

You can find important information in your parent account and you can feel free to call the camp office and speak to a director at any time.

Camper Photos & Emails

We understand it is a difficult transition for parents and campers to not have instant access to each other, but we believe the unplugged opportunities at camp far outweigh the need for a phone. Our strict no cell phone policy is meant to provide campers with the best possible Camp experience.

Parents may call the office to talk with the camper’s unit director for an update or with any concerns. Campers staying over between consecutive sessions are welcome to call home on the Saturday of their hold-over weekend.

Campers do not have access to send emails but may receive emails sent to them through your parent account. Through this service, you may send one-way emails to your camper which are printed at noon and delivered during mail call each day.

It is important for us to respect each camper’s experience and not bombard them with a camera constantly around, but we will do our best to get a variety of photos each day. Please click here to read more on our photo philosophy.

Important Forms

Camp is in a unique position to provide opportunities for all campers to improve cognitive and behavioral development. We ask that parents give as much insight as possible on their camper’s forms to help us set each camper up for success. All forms can be accessed through your parent account & are required to be uploaded at least 2 weeks before your camper's session.

By law, campers may not be at Camp without the following forms:

  • Current Physical Examination

  • Immunization Record

  • Health History w/ Insurance Information

  • Prescription or OTC Medication Form

  • Pick-Up Authorization

Additional Necessary Forms:

  • Skill Class Preference Form (0vernight Campers Only)

  • Camper Mental Health Support Form

  • Letter to the Counselors

Parent Handbook

In the Parent Handbook, you can find everything you’ll need to help get ready for Camp, including important forms, packing lists, how to request a cabin mate, and information on sending mail to your campers.

Camper Mail

Your overnight camper or 46er camper may receive mail regularly. A letter from home can do wonders to help a camper adjust to camp! Dropping a letter in the mail before your camper is dropped off at camp can ensure it gets to them while they are at Chingachgook.

Small care packages are allowed but please do not send food as we need to avoid Adirondack critters in cabins and be cautious for those with food allergies. Food items will be confiscated and disposed of.

Please address your camper’s mail:
Camper’s Name, Cabin Number (if known)
Camp Chingachgook
1872 Pilot Knob Road
Kattskill Bay, NY 12844.

Sending your camper with pre-addressed envelopes for family and friends can increase the chances of your camper writing home.
